was
set
up
to
bring
together
existing
services
to
provide
a
one-stop
shop
that
has
resulted
in
a
more
co-ordinated
and
customer
focused
approach
to
support
people
to
live
independently.
SCFS
was
able
to
secure
a
three
year
contract
where
we
provide
Gardening,
Decorating,
Handyperson
and
Minor
Alteration
services
on
behalf
of
the
Sunderland
HIA.
Most
people
want
to
stay
in
their
own
homes
as
they
get
older
and
Sunderland’s
Home
Improvement
Agency
has
been
created
to
help
people
do
just
that.
The
aim
of
the
HIA
is
to
“enable
those
in
need
of
support
to
maintain
their
independence
in
their
chosen
home
for
the
foreseeable
future.
This
will
be
achieved
by
supporting
people
throughout
the
repair,
adaptation
or
improvement
process,
so
that
individuals
are
able
to
remain
in
their
own
home
in
a
warm,
safe
and
secure
environment”.
The
service
can
assist
older
and
disabled
and
otherwise
vulnerable
people
living
in
Sunderland
to
improve,
repair
and
adapt
their
property
and
stay
home
in
greater
comfort.
The
HIA
will
help
you
through
the
process
of
having
work
carried
out
from
beginning
to
end.

We
carry
out
various
handyperson
jobs
including
easing
doors,
security
measures,
putting
up
curtain
rails,
moving
furniture
within
the
home,
fitting
energy
saving
light
bulbs,
cleaning
gutters
and
pinning
down
loose
carpet
(to
name
just
a
few!).
The
gardening
service
provides
grass
cutting,
hedge
and
bush
trimming,
cutting
overhanging
trees,
power
washing
any
slippery
paths
and
steps,
bagging
rubbish
and
even
clearing
snow
from
walkways
in
the
winter.
Our
decorating
service
offers
a
basic
decorating
clean
up
service,
which
offers
people
that
are
eligible
single
coats
of
emulsion
and
gloss,
to
smarten
up
their
properties
