"We're not just about furniture"

About The Company
A brief history of Sunderland CFS...

Sunderland Community Furniture Service was formed in 1991. We became an Incorporated Private Limited Company and Registered Charity in August 1994.

The objectives of the charity are:

  • To relieve poverty in particular by supplying and renovating furniture and household goods to those in need in North East England.
  • The relief of elderly or disabled people by participating in any charitable schemes or services intended to benefit such people in need.
  • To protect and safeguard the environment for public benefit particularly through the promotion of re-use and recycling as a means of waste disposal and the provision of recycling activities.

As well as the Furniture Stores we offer a range of low level support services to help people with tasks which they are unable to do. We offer gardening, decorating, security measures, handyperson services and also restoration work on items of furniture.

We pride ourselves on our diversity, providing a wealth of training including life skills and on the job training for volunteers and trainees.

Over the years the SCFS has evolved from a small furniture store with only a few volunteers to a charity thriving with 18 staff and a number of volunteers and trainees and offers a wide variety of services. We are always looking for new initiatives, keeping within the theme of the organisation, to provide even more help to vulnerable people.
